Jazz Ensemble Performs Sunset Beach Music on the Beach Concert, April 16, 2009

Under the direction of Mr. Robert Barfield, the Jazz Ensemble performs year round at a variety of school and community events. Ensemble members may also participate in Marching Band and Concert Band, but take on the additional responsibility of performing in the Jazz Ensemble.

This ensemble performs the true American art form, Jazz. The styles of music ranges form big band, swing, bebop, funk, and rock. Students are exposed to music from 1900 to present time, and learn basic improvisation skills. The Jazz ensemble has received straight superior ratings at every FBA Jazz District Festival since 1994.

The jazz program also includes the Jazz Bones, a smaller combo consisting of 5 trombones and a rhythm section.

In 2007 and 2008, members of the Jazz Ensemble were invited to perform at the University of North Texas Jazz Festival, a prestigious national event. In 2009 the ensemble performed at the Savannah Music Festival.

2009 Lakeside Jazz Festival Grand Champion ( Port Orange, FL)
Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Bones received straight superior ratings; Trombone section earned Best Trombone Section; Emily Fredrickson (trombone) earned best soloist.

2009 Jazz Ensemble Performs at the Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Center, New York City. Completed a 2 hour clinic/workshop with Ted Nash, Professional Jazz Saxophonist and member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra at the Jazz at Lincoln Center facility.
