Representatives from the Macy's Thanksgiving
Day Parade in New York City attended the Tarpon Springs High School
Annual Showcase Concert at TSHS on April 10 and surprised the crowd
with the announcement that the Tarpon Springs Band had been selected
to represent the State of Florida at the 2013 Macy's Thanksgiving
Day Parade in New York City. Only 11 bands nationwide were selected
for the 2013 parade honor.

Also present for the announcement was
Principal Clint Herbic, Tarpon Springs Mayor David Archie and Jeanne
Reynolds, Supervisor for the Performing Arts for the Pinellas County
School District.
"This is a huge honor for our school and
our community and a credit to all the hard work that our students,
parents, and supporters have devoted over the years. Because this
is 18 months out, I hope that the middle school students who are
here tonight realize that this could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
for them at Tarpon Springs High School," said Kevin Ford, Director
of the Leadership Conservatory for the Arts.
Some 3.5 million people line the streets of Manhattan
to watch the parade annually, while another 50 million from across
the country tune in to view it on television, according to organizers.
Travel costs to New York for the 100+ students
must be borne by the school and the band booster organization. "Today
is the first day of a great journey for us; fundraising starts now,"
said Jeff Hochberg, president of the Tarpon Springs Band Boosters.
The parade is on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2013.
